AIKEN, SC - Martha Elizabeth “Lib” Shockley Tumblin, Aiken, S.C., passed away peacefully on November 23, 2013 in Mount Pleasant, S.C. after a long illness. Born on March 28, 1926 in Greenville, S.C., Lib was a graduate of Mauldin High School. In 1950 she married, Marvin Franklin Tumblin, Jr., the love of her life, and shortly thereafter moved to Aiken where they made their home and raised their family together. She retired from the Aiken Bamburg, Barnwell, Edgefield County Library in 1993. Lib was a selfless, generous, and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. Her heart’s desire was to serve God by helping her husband, children and grandchildren know the Lord and support them in every way to live up to God’s plan for their lives. She took great pride in her family and loved to help others. She is survived by her husband, Marvin Franklin Tumblin, Jr. of Aiken S.C.; three daughters, Martha Elizabeth Tumblin (Bruce White) of Mt Pleasant. SC, Frances Tumblin Bodie (John) of Lake Murray, SC, and Marsha Tumblin Hopkins of Aiken, SC; four grandchildren, Brad Dennis (Ashley), Courie Dennis (Aimee), Joseph Dennis of Aiken and Sarah Elizabeth White of Mt Pleasant; and five great grandchildren, Reese, Hunter, Mason, Hannah, and Michael, all of Aiken; two brothers, Leonard Shockley (Bunice), Clarence Shockley (Margie), both of Greenville, SC. She cherished her many beloved nieces and nephews and life-long friends, including Mrs. Pat Beam of Aiken, S.C. Lib was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Mary Tinsley Shockley; sisters, Doris Shockley Allen and JoAnn Shockley, brother, William Shockley, and nephew, Mitchell Allen, along with dear family friends, Frances and Jim Evans. A service to Celebrate Lib’s life will be held on Tuesday morning, 10:00, at New Covenant Presbyterian Church in Aiken, SC. Graveside services will follow later that day, 3:00p, at Greenville Memorial Gardens in Greenville, SC. On Monday evening, November 25, 2013, the family will receive friends at Shellhouse-Rivers Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials in Lib’s name be made to the Child Advocacy Center of Aiken County PO Box 1763 Aiken, SC 29802.
