AIKEN – Mrs. Polly Cato Hartley, 80, died Friday, June 13, 2008 at University Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM Sunday, June 15, 2008 at Charles Wesley United Methodist Church., Reverend Jim Bennett will officiate. Interment will follow in Ridge Spring Cemetery, Ridge Spring, SC.
Pallbearers will be Stephen Clarke, Brett Clarke, Bruce Blakey, Lewie Hartley, Jr., Neil Cato, Wingo Johnson, Courtney Johnson, Danny Johnson and Geof Johnson.
Mrs. Hartley was born in Monetta, SC, a daughter of the late Legare and Charlotte Sox Cato. A resident of Aiken since 1954, Mrs. Hartley was a teacher in the Aiken County School System. Her strong faith enabled her to fight the battle of cancer for 17 years. Her family and friends were the joy of her life.
Survivors include her two daughters, Linda (Ken) Clarke, Aiken, Nancy Blakey, Irmo, SC; three grandchildren, Stephen (Maggie) Clarke, Brett Clarke, Bruce Blakey; a great granddaughter, Madison Clarke; a sister, Alma Johnson, Jacksonville, FL; a brother, Legare Cato, Jr., Cayce, SC.
In addition to her parents, her husband, Sidney Hartley, and a grandson, Sidney Thomas Blakey, preceded her in death.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Epworth Children’s Home, P.O. Box 50466, Columbia, SC 29250, to the University Health Care Fund, (a foundation that pays for health insurance for cancer patients who have lost their jobs), 2100 Central Ave., Suite D1, Augusta, GA 30904, or to Charles Wesley United Methodist Church, 3510 Trolley Line Rd., Aiken, SC 29801.
