Donald Owens Greene

AIKEN, SC- DONALD OWENS GREENE, beloved husband of Ella Mae Brown Greene, died Wednesday, January 22, 2014, at Aiken Regional Medical Centers. A lifelong resident of Aiken County, Mr. Greene was born on February 15, 1926. He served proudly in the U.S. Navy and was retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a rural mail carrier. Mr. Greene made his living as a mail carrier but he made his life as a farmer, raising beef cattle and other crops on family land. He was a member of Foreman Memorial Baptist Church in New Ellenton and a member of more than 60 years of the Masonic Lodge. Survivors include his wife of 59 years; one sister, Peggy Greene Shaw; his children, Lonnie Reid Greene (Lorrie) of New Ellenton, Donna Greene deMedicis of Warrenville, and Lisa Carole Greene of Durham, NC; five grandchildren, Tanya Marie Tomory Donald Owens Greene, II, Elana Katherine Williams, Ella Danielle Robinson, and Joshua Reid Greene; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews who will remember him always. In addition to his parents, Robert Ernest and Daisy Owens Greene, Mr. Greene was preceded in death by his brother, James Stephen Greene, Sr., and one son, Perry Allen Greene. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Friday at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 PM at the funeral home.
