Aiken, SC- Walter J. Nayda, 86, of Aiken SC (formally of Philadelphia, PA; Millville, NJ; Elmer, NJ; Ivanhoe, NC; and Hereford, AZ) passed away peacefully at home on Friday March 7, 2014. He was born on March 21, 1927, the son of Mary Paulachien Keshwe and Peter Nayda. Walt was the husband of the late Anna Homich Nayda and the father of the late Walter (Butchie) J. Nayda Jr.
He is survived by his two daughters Debra Ann Tice (Leon V. Tice II) of Schellsburg, PA and Kimberly Sue Nayda-St. Clair (Andrew J. St. Clair) of Aiken, SC; and four grandchildren Leon Travis Tice (Heidi Horst) with great-grand daughters Lucy and Molly; LeeAnn Marie Huber (Jeff Huber); Garrett Bret Tice (Tiffney Miller) with great-grand daughter Kinsley; and Katlyn Sue Tice.
Also surviving are his nephew Ralph Naider and family of Portland, OR; his niece Marilyn Kraft and family of Colton, OR; his cousin Docia Nayda and family of Glenn Allen, VA; several grand-nephews and nieces and cousins; brother-in-law, Micheal Homich, PA; and sisters-in-laws Judy McGraw, AZ and Helen Golubinski, NY.
Walt graduated from Millville High School, Millville, NJ, and served in the U.S. Army Air Force at Guam and Hawaii. After returning from his tour of duty in WW II, he began working at Owen-Illinois Glass, Bridgeton NJ. After several years, he went on and spent the duration of his working career as a truck driver for Lobiondo Trucking Company of Rosenhayn, NJ until retirement.
Fully devoted to his wife of 55 years, Walt enjoyed traveling to many states, camping with RV clubs, making his famous crabs and crab sauce with friends and family, and working on his customized 1978 Ford Pickup with a Cumins diesel engine. Walt carries our love with him and he will be dearly missed.
