AIKEN, SC – John Joseph Ochrenyk, 74, beloved husband of Shan Ai Ochrenyk, died suddenly, Monday, March 10, 2014 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.
John was born and raised in Newark, NJ. He was a son of the late Mary who was born in Poland and John, who was born in Russia. John joined the Army shortly after high school. He was honorably discharged. John worked at Burry Biscuits in Elizabeth, NJ, then at Drakes Bakery in Irvington, NJ for many years as a mechanic. He lived in Scotch Plains, Livingston and Succasunna prior to retiring to Aiken, SC. John attended computer classes and loved to work on his computer. He was a member of St. Gerard’s Catholic Church.He had two brothers, Edward (deceased) and Raymond (New Jersey); two sisters, Charlotte Pirylis (New Jersey) and Isabel Carpenter (Florida); a step-son in New Jersey, Sam Shaver and wife Diane; two grandsons, Danny and Peter; and many nieces and nephews. He was married three times, Terry (deceased) and Mary (deceased).He was a devoted husband, but never had any children. John and Shan have known each other for eight years and been married for six wonderful years.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM Thursday at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home on Pine Log Rd.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM Friday at St. Gerard’s Catholic Church with The Rev. Don Abbott officiating.
