Leonard Chandler Mobley

April 24, 1923 — March 13, 2014

Leonard Chandler Mobley, 90, passed away Thursday, March 13, 2014. A graveside service will be held on Sunday, March 16 at 4:00 at Southlawn Cemetery, with the Reverend Dr. Fred W. Andrea, III officiating. Visitation will follow in the First Baptist Church Parlor from 5:00 – 6:00.Mr. Mobley was born in Athens, GA to Hoyt and Wilma Mobley. He moved to Augusta, GA where he attended Richmond Academy and Augusta College. He was a veteran of WWII and served in the European Theatre. Upon return from the war he was employed by the Graniteville Company as an office manager. He moved to Aiken in 1954 where he managed a retail business for six years. In 1960 he entered into the Real Estate business at Lyon, Croft Weeks. He was a licensed real estate broker for over 50 years. He was also in the building business with his brother, and was instrumental in the development of the Westcliff subdivision. He was a member of First Baptist Church and past member of several civic and real estate organizations. He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Marion, three daughters, Linda Markovich (Tom) of Anderson, SC, Rose Grogg (Rich) of Graniteville, SC, and Allison Basile (Jay) of Aiken. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Rick and Robin Grogg and Chandler Basile, four great-grandchildren, a sister Ellen M. Richards of Thomson, GA, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Leonard was preceded in death by brothers Russell Mobley, Harold Mobley and Allen Mobley, and a sister Jean M. McDonald.
