NEW ELLENTON, SC – DURAND G. COATS, 85, beloved husband of Elizabeth Key Porter Coats, died unexpectedly Saturday, April 12, 2014 in Oxford, NC.A native of Laurens, SC, Mr. Coats was a son of the late Robert Hurbert and Ruby Monroe Coats. He moved to Aiken County in the early 1950’s during the beginning days of the Savannah River Plant. He worked for DuPont until his retirement in 1993 at the age of 55. Mr. Coats was a cabinetmaker and was a member of Talatha Baptist Church where he was also a member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class.Survivors, in addition to his wife, Elizabeth, include a daughter, Kayla C. Thompson, Charlotte, NC; a son, Bryan S. (Angela) Coats, North Augusta; step-daughters, Linda (Gene) Treadway, North Augusta, Ginger (Mike) Dixon, Aiken, Beth (Grady) Yonce, Aiken; step-son, Stan (Jeanette) Porter, New Ellenton; grandchildren, Brantley (Jacob) Wallace, Carly Thompson, Jeremy Coats, Jordan Coats, Jailyn Coats, Jaicee Coats; step-grandchildren, Duane Feldman, Emilie Wilson, Mandy Duran, Jennifer Smith, Sara Lucas, Julie Wilhite, Kerrie Yonce, Jeremiah Leyda, Joshua Leyda; great-grandchildren, Woodrow Wallace, Jasmine Coats; eleven step-great-grandchildren; brothers, Robert (Pat) Coats, Aylette, VA, Donald (Donna) Coats, St. Stevens Church, VA, Charles (Vivian) Coats, Laurens, SC, Julian (Becky) Coats, Suwanee, GA; special friends Libby and James Shuford, Aiken. In addition to his parents, Mr. Coats was preceded in death by his first wife, Vera L. Coats.The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 16th at Talatha Baptist Church beginning at 1 PM followed by the funeral service at 2 PM. The Revs. Kevin Carter and David Lester will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jeremy Coats, Jordan Coats, Mickey Coats, Monty Coats, David Coats and Gary Miller.
