AIKEN, SC – DOROTHY M. FISHBURNE, widow of Daniel F. Fishburne, Jr., passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers. She was 86.
Mrs. Fishburne was a daughter of the late Park Hay and Dorothy Ale Mikell of Charleston, SC. Although born in Baltimore, MD, she lived her whole life in Charleston, SC and moved with her husband to Aiken, SC in 1952. She attended The University of South Carolina and Columbia College, and then graduated from the McLeod Infirmary School of Nursing. She was a registered nurse, and practiced nursing in Charleston prior to her marriage in 1948. She was a homemaker and was a member of South Aiken Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Dottie (David) Salter, Aiken, a son, Daniel F. Fishburne III, Aiken, three grandchildren, Daniel F. Fishburne IV, Austin Mikell Fishburne and Caroline Elizabeth Salter, three great-grandchildren, Brice Daniel Fishburne, Summerlin Claire Fishburne and Joseph Cameron Fishburne and a sister, Francis Tupper, Columbia.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:00 AM at South Aiken Presbyterian Church, with The Rev. Dr. Joe Brooks officiating. Pallbearers will be Milledge Clyatt, Chalmers Mikell, David Scotten, James Tupper, Marshall Lamb and Cecil Smith. Interment will follow at 3:00 PM in The Presbyterian Church on Edisto Island Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Thursday at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home, 715 East Pine Log Rd., Aiken, SC.
