AIKEN, SC- GARY EDWARD SCHULTZ, 81, beloved husband of 57 years to Ann Hawes Schultz, died Saturday, April 26, 2014 at University Hospital. Mr. Schultz was born in Orange, Texas, a son of the late Edward Thomas Schultz and Eula Burton Schultz. He proudly served his country in the US Army and graduated with an Industrial Engineering degree from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech). Prior to moving to Aiken, he worked as a supervisor for Burlington Industries in Drakes Branch, Virginia from 1959-1964. Mr. Schultz retired from Owens Corning Fiberglas as a supervisor after thirty years of service. He was a faithful member of Aiken’s First Baptist Church, enjoyed sports, being outside, carpentry, and traveling with his wife. In addition to his wife Ann, Mr. Schultz is survived by a daughter, Karen Schultz (Donald) Lamb, Avon Park, FL; a son, Gary Edward (Heather) Schultz, Jr., Huntington, WV; four grandchildren, Dylan Schultz, Maddox Schultz, Kennedy Schultz, and Ashton Schultz; a brother Donald (Joyce) Schultz, Van Buren, AR; nieces Leslie Coppage, Cheryl Apperson, and Wendy Chamberlain; nephews, Bret and Hank Hawes; two brothers-in-law, Henry Hawes, Jackson, MS, and Bill Hawes, Ocilla, GA. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Wednesday, April 30, 2014 in Aiken’s First Baptist Church. The Reverend Doctor Fred W. Andrea III officiating. Interment will follow in Southlawn Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Donald Schultz, Bill Hawes, Henry Hawes, and Neal Flowers.   In lieu of floral arrangements, memorial contributions may be directed to the Arthritis Foundation, PO Box 96280, Washington, DC, 20077. Friends may call this Tuesday evening from 6 until 7 PM at SHELLHOUSE FUNERAL HOME, 924 HAYNE AVE., AIKEN, SC.
