Jeanne Petee Walls

AIKEN- Florence Jeanne Petee Walls, beloved wife of James Emmett Walls, died Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at her home in Aiken, SC, after a long battle (5 years plus) with Alzheimer’s disease. She had been under the care of Regency Hospice for about 8 months. Jeanne was born May 3, 1925, in Alliance, Ohio, the last of six children of Harvey Elgin and Hazel Kirk Bachar Petee. She grew up in Ohio and graduated from Crestline High School in Crestline, Ohio. She worked her way through college at Anderson College in Anderson, Indiana, graduating in 1948. She later obtained a Masters Degree from the University of South Carolina and taught school in Aiken County, South Carolina. Jeanne married James Emmett Walls, whom she met at Anderson College, December 22, 1945. She worked until he finished his engineering degree at N.C. State University and went with him on all his assignments in his 36.5 year career with the DuPont Company. She had a talent for making friends and took great joy in her family and friends. Jeanne was predeceased by her parents and all five siblings. She is survived by her loving husband, James Emmett Walls and three children: Janette Cherie Walls Rogerson of Aiken, SC, Steven Dana Walls (Sue) of Lexington, SC and Tina Kathleen Walls Shake (Joe) of Aiken, SC. In addition, she is survived by 6 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the chapel at St. Johns United Methodist Church at 10:00 AM Saturday with the Reverend Doctor George Howle officiating. Pallbearers will be Christopher Glover, Paul Blackstock, Tyler Shake, Trevor Shake, Eric Bradford, and Jon Blackstock. The family will receive friends at Shellhouse-Rivers Funeral Home, 715 East Pine Log Rd., Aiken, SC, Friday from 6PM to 8PM.
