H. Alan Smith

AIKEN, SC – H. ALAN SMITH, Lt. Col., US Army Ret., 77, died Thursday, May 22, 2014 at his residence. A native of Johnston, SC, Alan was a son of the late Horace Barnes and Josie Lott Smith. He was a combat veteran in the United States Army. He served in Korea and Vietnam, rising to the rank of Lt. Colonel before his retirement in 1980. He was a property manager at Aiken Properties Inc. for 15 years. Survivors include a daughter, Keely Smith, Aiken, SC; two sons, Luttrell “Ben” A. Smith (Carol), Colorado, Steve Andrew Smith (Becky), Waxhaw, NC; grandchildren, Laura O’Betz, Alex, Clair, Audrey, Hannah, Nathan, Tabitha, and Kevin Smith; a sister, Annette Morris, Graniteville; a brother, James W. Smith, Aiken; and his beloved dog, Sugar. In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by a grandson, the late Michael O’Betz. A memorial service will be held at 3 PM Friday, May 30, 2014 in All Saint’s Anglican Church. The Father George Alexander officiating. Private interment in the church cemetery.
