NEW ELLENTON, SC – ROBERT L. “BOB” GEORGE. 86, husband of the late Helen Greene George, died Thursday, May 29, 2014 at his daughter’s residence.
A native of Robbinsville, NC, Bob. was a son of the late Audrey Sherrill and Robert Hardy George. Bob. and Helen went to high school together in Boiling Springs, NC. He enlisted in the United States Army when he was 23 and served with the 7th Infantry Division during the Korean Conflict. He and Helen married on April 17, 1951 in Gaffney, SC. They moved to Aiken in 1954 and Bob .went to work for DuPont at the Savannah River Plant. He retired in 1989 after 35 years. He was a member of New Ellenton Masonic Lodge #389 and Jackson Lodge #127 and was Past Worshipful Master. Bob. was President of the Aiken Shrine Club in 1989. He was a member of the Scottish Rite, Order Eastern Star 238, Korean War Veterans Association, Square and Compass and St. Paul United Methodist Church, New Ellenton. He was an avid bowler and a supreme gardener.
Survivors include two daughters, Donna. (Jimmy) Arbaugh, Tonya G. (Brad) Pemberton; a son, Tim (Carla) George, all of Aiken; six grandchildren, Nichole (Nikki) Jackson, Addam Arbaugh, Neil (Kristi) Arbaugh, Kaylyn N. George, Helania Pemberton, Malia Pemberton; seven great-grandchildren, Nadia C. Jones, Avian N. Jackson, Logan N. Rogers, Ayden A. Arbaugh, Easton K. Arbaugh, Gracelyn Gilbert, Julianne; two sisters, Nancy G. Jolly, High Point, NC, Sue (Gene) Rippy, Shelby, NC; a brother, Jack (Rosalyn) George, Aiken. In addition to his wife and parents, Bob was preceded in death by four sisters, Edna Mae Francis, Macy Ann George, Ora A. Hawkins, Mary Francis Wilkerson; a brother, Lloyd J. George who was killed in World War II.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 o’clock Saturday evening at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held Sunday afternoon at 4 o’clock at the funeral home with The Revs. Kevin Carter and Jaqueline Connelly officiating. Interment will follow in St. Paul United Methodist Church Cemetery, New Ellenton with Military Honors and Masonic Rites. Pallbearers will be Neil Arbaugh, Addam Arbaugh, Harold Bess, Dean Nunn, Billy Francis, Alan George.
