Charlie Whitfield Gabler

Charles Whitfield Gabler, of Aiken, South Carolina, a former resident of Hampton, Virginia, died on August 12, 2008. Charlie was born in Lynchburg, Virginia, in 1933, and was a resident of Hampton, Virginia, until 1995 He was a 1952 graduate of Hampton High School and served in the United State Marine Corps. He retired from the Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company in Newport News, Virginia, after 36 years of service as a Design Supervisor in the Nuclear Engineering and Design Department. Charlie is survived by his wife, Ann Gabler, of Aiken. South Carolina, and two daughters, Jane Rogers and her husband, Tom, of Fairport, New York, Suzanne Escuadra and her husband, Joey, of Yorktown, Virginia, three grandchildren, Alexandra Boykin of Tampa, Florida, Zachary Boykin and Kaelyn Escuadra both of Yorktown, Virginia. He is also survived by a brother, Hampton Clay Gabler, Jr., and his wife Adina, of Hampton, Virginia,. He was predeceased by his parents, Hampton C. Gabler, Sr., and Ora Mason Gabler of Hampton, Virginia.. Charlie was a member of Millbrook Baptist Church and the “Saints Alive” Sunday School Class, in Aiken, South Carolina. He was also a member of the Marine Corps League, James L. Hammond Detachment #939, Aiken, South Carolina. A memorial service will be held at Millbrook Baptist Church on Saturday, August 16, at 11:00 a.m. with the Reverend Tom Bodkin, Associate Pastor of Hayes Barton Baptist Church in Raleigh, North Carolina, a special friend and former pastor of Charlie and Ann.
