AIKEN – Mr. Daniel David Magness, Sr., 84, died Wednesday August 20, 2008 at his residence.
Interment with military honors will be at 10:00 AM Friday in Aiken Memorial Gardens. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM Friday at Shiloh Baptist Church. Reverend Taylor Wells and Reverend Louie Anderson will officiate
Honorary pallbearers will be the Men’s Senior Sunday School Class.
Mr. Magness was born in Gainesville, GA, a son of the late Russell and Minnie Merck Magness. He served in the US Army during WWII, and was involved in the D-Day invasion in Normandy. He was a resident of Aiken since 1945, and was in management at Aiken Electric Co-Op. He was a member of the Lyons Club, Aiken Rotary, the Shriners and the Masonic Lodge. As a member of Shiloh Baptist Church, he served as a deacon and was very active in Sunday School.
Survivors include his two daughters, Brenda J. (James) Findlay, Martinez, GA, Starr T. Magness, Hilton Head, SC; five grandchildren, Amy (Tommy) Day, Daniel D.(Misty) Magness, III, Jill (Chad) Manley, Lawson (Sandra) Findlay, Elizabeth Ann (Adam) Carter; eleven great grandchildren; brother, Russell (Jenny) Magness, Aiken; and a special friend and companion, Jo Simmons.
In addition to his parents, his wife, Mildred Reed Magness, and son, Daniel D. Magness, Jr., preceded him in death.
