Dorothy Roden Lyons

October 4, 1926 — July 1, 2014

AIKEN - Mrs Dorothy Roden Lyons, formerly of Williamsburg, VA passed away Tuesday July 1, 2014. She was 87 years old. Originally from Paris, TX, Dorothy pursued education in secretarial studies and worked as an Administrative Assistant for a number of years. At this time she met the love of her life, Carson Lyons. They were blessed to be married for 60 years. With two children they enjoyed travel, art, music and theater. They made their home in the Washington, D.C. area where she enjoyed hostessing many parties and house guests. Always attentive to the details she became an accomplished cook. Her grandchildren loved her for ‘Nana’s Famous Rolls’ and peanut butter candy. Dorothy was an amazing artist, painting in the impressionistic style. For the children she was always willing to draw paper dolls and dinosaurs. She also painted for each of her family members, tailoring each piece of art to their interests and desires. Dorothy, known as Nana, was greatly loved by her grandchildren and will be missed my many family and friends. The family would like to especially thank the staff of UniHealth Post Acute Care-North Augusta, Station 2 for their love and kindness and their exceptional care of Dorothy in the last months of her life. Mrs. Lyons was predeceased by her parents Claude T and Naomi Roden; her husband, Carson Lyons; a son, Mark Carson Lyons and two brothers, Mark Roden and Lowell Roden. She is survived by her daughter, Kim Laughlin (Larry); daughter in law Selina Lyons Villalpando (Doug) and grandchildren Mike (Tara) Laughlin, Laura (Nathan) Whittaker, Amy Laughlin, Crystal Lyons, Valerie Lyons and Andrew Laughlin; and one sister, Jane Garrett. It comforts our hearts to know that Dorothy was at peace with her home going due to her faith in Almighty God and the Son for salvation. The family will receive friends at 1:30 PM Sunday, with the funeral service to follow at 2:00 PM in the Shellhouse Funeral Home Chapel, Hayne Ave. Chaplain John Bower will officiate. Interment will follow in Aiken Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Savannah River Cancer Foundation, P.O. Box 3694, Aiken, SC 29802.
