AIKEN - RICHARD K. CHESSER, 87, beloved husband of the late Doris Williams Chesser died Friday, July 11, 2014 at his residence.
Richard K. (Dick) Chesser was born February 28th, 1927 in Bradenton Florida to the late William Cleveland and Evelyn Stewart Chesser. He grew up in Montgomery, Alabama where he was an all-state running back for the Lanier High Poets. He enlisted in the navy when he was 17 and served with the occupation forces in Japan.
Thanks to the GI bill he was the first in his family to graduate from college earning a business degree from Auburn University.
After graduating he was looking for work and picked up a hitch hiker who told him they were hiring people in South Carolina. He came to Aiken and found a job at the DuPont Savanah River Plant. His wife Doris Chesser soon joined him and they spent the rest of their lives here in Aiken.
After retiring from the Savannah River Plant Dick spent many happy days playing golf with his good friends at the Palmetto Golf Club.
He was a nice guy with a quick wit which endeared him to many of the golfers at the Palmetto. (Some more than others)
Aside from golf he enjoyed his pets, his grandchildren and giving suspect advice about investing.
He is survived by three children Elisabeth "Lisa" (Mike) Hosang, Richard ( Susan) Chesser, and Michael Chesser, two grandchildren Catherine (Scott) Woods and Jake Chesser, and a great grandson Greyson Woods.
A visitation will be held at the Palmetto Golf Club on Monday, July 14th from 5 until 7 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the SPCA Albrecht Center for Animal Welfare, 199 Willow Run Rd., Aiken, SC 29801 (spca-albrecht.org) or the First Tee of Aiken, 901 Houndslake Dr, Aiken, SC 29803.
