AIKEN - Imojean "Jean" Proffitt Hensley, age 81, entered into rest after a short illness on Sunday, July 20, 2014 at University Hospital in Augusta, GA with her twin daughters and grandson by her side. Jean was born in Burnsville, NC and was the son of the late Clarence and Hilda Proffitt. She is survived by daughters Pam (Dick) Verenes and Pat Lawhead, grandson John (Lindsay) Lawhead, great-granddaughters Campbell Jean and Sydney Zoe, and sister Margie Gilbert. Jean was predeceased by sister Helen Marihew.
Jean, or G.G. as her family called her, worked as a secretary at Savannah River Site until she retired after more than 25 years. Following retirement she worked as a freelance manuscript editor from her home. She enjoyed tending her garden, playing with her cat Tiger, and spending time with and spoiling her daughters, her grandson, and her great-granddaughters. If there was one word to describe her it was "sweet".
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at Shellhouse Funeral Home with Pastor Jake Edwards officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Augusta Warrior Project, 4115 Columbia Rd, Suite 5-333, Martinez, GA 30907-0410 or http://www.augustawarriorproject.org/.
