AIKEN – Mr. Charles Babb Cannon, Jr. died Saturday, August 30, 2008. He was 78 years old. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 Am Tuesday at St. John’s United Methodist Church. Reverend Dr. George K. Howle will officiate. Interment with military honors will follow in Southlawn Cemetery. He was born December 8, 1929 and reared in Laurens, SC. He was the son of the late Charles B. Cannon, Sr., originally from Gray Court, SC, and the late Mamie Myrtle Griffin, originally from Honea Path, SC. He attended Clemson A&M College and graduated with a B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering in 1949. He served as 1st Lt. In the USAF during the Korean War, receiving his Flight Wings in 1952 as an Electronic Countermeasures Officer for the SAC Command B-36 Heavy Bombers. He retired from the aero-space company, Martin Marietta Corp. In Orlando, FL where he was a Senior Electronic Design Engineer and Program Manager on a number of missile guidance systems. He also retired from the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Augusta, GA where he served as the Resident Engineer for construction projects. He and his wife, Elinor were a loving and devoted couple for 30 years. Survivors include his wife, Elinor Powell Cannon, originally from Graniteville, SC; five children all of whom reside in Orlando, FL.: Deborah Joan Broome, Charles Brian Cannon, Robert Michael Cannon, Brenda Jo Foley, Dr. Randall Griffin Cannon and the late Charles Jeffrey Cannon; a step daughter, Rebecca Fogle McLaughlin, Jupiter, FL; three sisters, Myrtle G. Cannon and M. Elizabeth Cannon Parsons, both of Laurens, SC and Jacquelyn C. Socha, Aiken, SC; and a number of grandchildren.
