AIKEN – Mrs. Beth Porter Bates, 76, beloved wife of George Bates, entered into rest Friday, September 05, 2014.
Born in Pitcairn, PA to the late James and Lillian Jackson Porter, Mrs. Bates worked as school teacher for Chaffee High School in Paget Parrish, Bermuda. She received two Outstanding Teaching Awards during her time there. She also volunteered for the Bermuda Hospital and after moving to Aiken, became a Women of Woodside member. She will be remembered by her husband as a wonderful wife and friend.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Bates is survived by a sister, Jane Thomas, Holliday, FL; two nieces, Sherry Ferrill, Indianapolis, IN, Carol Mannering, Tampa, FL; a nephew, James Thomas, Tampa; and a great niece, Kristen.

A visitation is planned for Monday, September 8, 2014 from 4-6 PM at SHELLHOUSE FUNERAL, INC., 924 HAYNE AVE., AIKEN SC. Interment will be held at a later date in Ligonier, PA.
