AIKEN, SC- STEWART MARVIN MOORE, 81, beloved husband of Catherine "Cathy" Moore, passed away Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at his residence. Stewart was born May 29, 1933 in West Newton, PA, a son of the late Oliver W. and Alice Carpenter Moore. He was a 1955 graduate of Penn State University and received his Master's degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 1962. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1956 until 1959 as an Air Traffic Control Operator. Stewart began his business career with the University of Pittsburgh in Human Resources. He worked for Westinghouse in Pittsburgh area for 25 years before moving to Aiken, SC in 1988. The last years of his career before retiring were with the Savannah River Site in Human Resources. Stew, as many of his friends knew, was a big Penn State football fan and traveled for many years from SC to Penn State to take in the home games as a season ticket holder. He was a member of Woodside Plantation Country Club for 25 years and was an avid golf and tennis player. Stew will always be remembered as a story teller of his travels and when he served an isolated tour in Greenland. In 2013, he had his one and only book, "Sarah's Secret," published. Even with his health declining, he was able to realize his dream had come true when his book was in his hands. Survivors include his wife of 58 plus years, Catherine "Cathy" M. Moore, two boys, Tom C. Moore, San Jose, CA and Tim P. Moore, North Augusta, SC; one brother, James E. Moore of Oxford, CT. Funeral Services will be held Sunday at 3 PM in the Shellhouse-Rivers Funeral Home Chapel with Military Air Force Honors. The Reverend Doctor Ray Litts will officiate. Members of the Men's Lunch Group will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the American Diabetes Association, 107 Westpark Blvd., Columbia, SC 29210 or a charity of your choice.
