AIKEN – Mrs. Myrtis Kelley Waters, 89, passed away Wednesday, September 10, 2014.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday at Central Baptist Church. Reverend Todd Wilson, Reverend Buddy Brinkley, and Dr. Bridget Kelly Coleman will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Gene Kelly, M.C. Matthews, Hank McCullough, Brad Kelly, Kyle Adams and Paul Kelly. Honorary pallbearers will be Earl Wilson, Gene Johnson, Jimmy Kelly, Bobby Payton and Thirl Waters.
Mrs. Waters was a lifelong resident of Aiken, born on October 6(7), 1924. Known as Aunt Myrt by all who knew her, she had many talents: mother, grandmother, homemaker, farmer, caregiver, historian, but her greatest passion was her home and its beautiful yard and garden. She was also a member of Central Baptist Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Jo Ann Waters Goldberg, Aiken; son Jerry (Gracie) Waters, Aiken; four grandchildren, Jason (Joy) Waters, Brian (Beth) Goldberg, Lisa Adams, and Hank McCullough; four great grandchildren, Jackson Waters, Jocelyn Waters, Kyle Adams, and Grayson McCullough; daughter in law, Phyllis Waters; son in law, Sandy Goldberg; special friend and sister in law, Elizabeth Kelly Brantley; her beloved faithful caregivers, Lois and Gene Kelly; niece Betty Sheppard; and scores of other nieces, nephews and friends.
Mrs. Waters was preceded in death by her parents, William Henry and Fannie Huff Kelley, and her childhood sweetheart and husband, Dewey Philip Waters.
