AIKEN – Mr. Nevin Clinton Wampole, 78, passed away Thursday, September 18, 2014.
Mr. Wampole was born in Lansdale, PA, a son of Mrs. Evelyn David Wampole of Lansdale, and the late Nevin Stover Wampole. He graduated from Penn State University with a degree in Petroleum Engineering, and then received his Masters in Nuclear Engineering from Georgia Tech. He joined the US Navy, and was honorably discharged as a Lieutenant. Mr. Wampole lived in Latrobe, PA for many years, and moved to Aiken in 1992 to work for Westinghouse at the Savannah River Site. He was a volunteer for the Star Therapeutic Riding, for Senior Net, and the Aiken Driving Club. He was also an avid cyclist, often taking part in week-long bike rides with a group from the Aiken area such as BRAG (Bike Ride Across Georgia). Mr. Wampole was a huge enthusiast of Hitchcock Woods and spent lots of time there throughout his years in Aiken.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Sara Patterson Wampole; two sons, Dave Wampole, Ligonier, PA and John Wampole, Las Vegas, NV; two grandchildren, Samantha and Hailey Wampole; two sisters, Sandra (Walt) Landis, Sellersville, PA, Barbara (Ted) Landis, Souderton, PA; a brother, Gary (Camille) Wampole, Loveland, CO; numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be private.
