AIKEN, SC – LILLIE VERDEEN STEADMAN CHAPMAN, 90, widow of Lonnie Haskell Chapman, died Monday, September 29, 2014 at her residence.
A native of Saluda County, Mrs. Chapman was a daughter of the late Sidney Lee and Sarah Inez Powell Steadman. She lived most of her life in Aiken County, and was a homemaker. Mrs. Chapman was a member of Talatha Baptist Church, the Friendship Sunday School Class and the Silver Bell Club. Mrs. Chapman loved to write poetry, work in the yard, spend time with her family and grandkids, and listen to gospel music and go on Senior bus trips and entertain all the other guests.
Survivors include a daughter, Karen Verlyn Chapman (Tom) Lucas; three sons, Carl “C. Q.” (Katie) Chapman, Haskell Dean (Brenda) Chapman, Timothy William (Donna) Chapman, all of Aiken; 12 grandchildren, Christopher Chapman, Danny Chapman, Johnny Chapman, Adam Chapman, Matt Chapman, Terry Chapman, Billy Chapman, Lonnie Chapman, Jimmy Lucas, Mark Lucas, April Windsor, Tracy Chapman; 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Brenda Stribling, Savannah, GA, Sarah Aldrich, Swansee, SC; a brother, Sidney (Duke) Steadman, Aiken and a host of nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Chapman was preceded in death by her brothers, Carl Steadman, Lide Steadman; sisters, Thelma Clark, and Marie “Pete” McCracken.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 PM at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 2, 2014 at 11 AM from the graveside in Southlawn Cemetery with The Rev. Eddie Penland officiating. Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
