Henry Allison Botkins

AIKEN – Mr. Henry Allison Botkins Sr., 83, died Sunday, October 5, 2008. Mr. Botkins was born in Ada, OK, a son of the late Benjamin and Thelma Botkins. He was a resident of Aiken since 1955. He was a member of Millbrook Baptist Church, an Alumni of the University of South Carolina, Member of the USC Letterman Club, S.C. Society of Engineer’s, American Society of Mechanical Engineer’s. He retired for E.I. DuPont with 37 years of service as Chief Engineer in Maintenance in the D, F and H areas. Mr. Botkins was also known for playing in the first Gator Bowl for the University of South Carolina in 1946. Survivors include a son, Henry Al (Lou Ree) Botkins, Jr,, Adairsville, GA; two grandchildren, Benjamin and Christopher Botkins; and a sister, Nellie Harrell, Arlington, TX and a niece Cindy Rothwell, Arlington,Texas. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday at Millbrook Baptist Church. Reverend Dr. Eddie Leopard will officiate. Interment will follow in Southlawn Cemetery in Aiken. Active pallbearers will be Houston Brown, Billy Pierce, Tom McLellan, Harry Harmon, H. O. Spooky Weeks and the Honorable Thomas W. Weeks. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Merritt, Virgil Stone, John Longshore, Al Collie, Wallis Bland, Clifton Weeks, Tom Campbell, Richard Thomas and the Millbrook Whitler’s. Memorials may be made to Millbrook Baptist Church Building Fund, 176 E. Pine Log Rd., Aiken, SC 29803.
