Joyce Neeley Kinder

July 16, 1946 — November 7, 2014

AIKEN, SC - Joyce Neeley Kinder passed into God's caring embrace on Friday, November 7 – entirely too early and unexpectedly - during her sixty-eighth year of sharing with and caring for others. There she will join her father, Walter Bookhardt Neeley, her son Joshua Kinder, and her mother Alberta Mills Neeley. Joyce was a designer with Material Things of Aiken and a graduate of Fontbonne College in St. Louis, Missouri. She was formerly a speech therapist in the Willamsburg County school system, serving, loving and improving the lives of many children with speech and hearing deficits. She also pursued graduate work at The Citadel, George Washington University and the University of South Carolina. Because of the love and support she continually gave to others, Joyce has been, and will continue to be, loved by many. Although her childhood home was in North Augusta, she grew up on, maintained a cabin on, and thrived on and within the banks of the Edisto River near Denmark, SC. She loved "Mother Edisto" in all her seasons. It was here that she dispensed the largest amount of her love and affection. She was born, married, gave birth to her youngest and departed this life from an area encompassing just a few blocks of Augusta, GA. Her marriage was the last one celebrated in Sacred Heart Catholic Church prior to its later transition to a cultural center. Joyce is survived by her husband Harvey Kinder (Aiken); son, Joel Kinder (Aiken); daughter, Alyson Kinder (John's Island); sister Patrica Neeley Ray (Beaufort, SC); nieces Michelle, Kimberly and Erin, as well as a large and caring extended family having its base in Denmark, SC. She was, and will remain in our hearts and memories a beautiful, strong, seasoned and loving woman of the South, who never failed to build up both people and ideas, ever emphasizing their positive aspects. Special thanks are extended by the family to the wonderful staff of the Neuro ICU at Georgia Regents University Hospital for their tender, loving and expert care. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Denmark, SC. Details of these arrangements will be posted both on http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/joycekinder/ and by other means. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a legacy project on the banks of Joyce's beloved Edisto, at Sojourner Campground at Holman’s Bridge, Inc. Here continuing generations will gather, love and laugh in her name and memory: Joyce’s Southbank Fund, Post Office Box 219, Carrboro, NC 27510. The family will receive friends Monday, Nov. 10 from 6-8 PM at SHELLHOUSE FUNERAL HOME, 924 HAYNE AVE., AIKEN, SC 29801 Please sign Joyce online register at shellhousefuneralhome.com To order memorial trees or send flowers to the family in memory of Joyce Neeley Kinder, please visit our flower store.
