AIKEN – Ms. Beverly Phillips Belk, 79, died Wednesday, October 22, 2008. A memorial service will be held at 2 PM Sunday at First Presbyterian Church with Reverend Dr. David Cozad officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the church parlor. Ms. Belk was born in Orangeburg, SC, a daughter of the late John Legree and Alta Unita Ussery Phillips. She was a resident of Aiken for 55 years, and was a case work assistant for S.C. Vocational Rehabilitation. She was a member of the Wise Outrageous Women Group, the Red Hat Society, a former Girl Scout Leader, was involved with Helping Hands, and was very active at First Presbyterian Church where she was a member. Survivors include three daughters, Unita (Joseph) Akins, Murfreesboro, TN, Beth (Chris) Potter, Statesville, NC, Marjorie Nelle Belk, Aiken; a son, John (Renee) Belk, St. Louis, MO; three sisters, Shirley Emmons, Forked River, NJ, Peggy Dube, West Columbia, SC, Jewel Blume, Cloumbia, SC; two brothers, Johnny Phillips and Eddie Phillips of Columbia, SC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Helping Hands, 100 John Elliot Lane, Aiken, SC 29801, or the Alzheimers Association, 332 Main Street, Suite 400, Greenwood, SC 29649.
