AIKEN - Mrs. Deborah Elizabeth Muir, 61, passed away Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at her residence. A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Friday, November 21, 2014 at St. John’s United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr.Tim McClendon and Rev. Dr. Ray Litts officiating. The family will receive friends in Ward Hall following the service. Mrs. Muir was born in Streator, IL to Thomas Henderson of Goodyear, AZ. and the late Eleanor Imig Skeen. She graduated from Ottawa (IL) High School in 1971 and from Western Illinois University with a degree in special education in 1974. After moving to Aiken in the mid 1980’s she worked at Castleberry Foods in Augusta, GA; The Sunshine House in Aiken; and then 18 years with the Aiken County School system primarily as a kindergarten teacher. During this time she earned a masters degree in Informational Technology. Mrs. Muir was a member of St.John’s United Methodist Church and enjoyed doing volunteer work there during her two years of retirement. She is survived by her loving husband, Warren Muir; stepfather, Joshua Ward Skeen, Aiken; a stepmother Lyn Henderson, Goodyear, AZ; a brother, Thomas (Becky) Henderson, Libertyville, IL; a stepdaughter, Jennifer (Brent) Ross, Johnston, SC; three stepsons, Jeffrey (Lisa) Muir, Columbia; Timothy (Jennifer) Muir, Columbia, Charles (Abigail) Muir, Irmo; eight grandchildren: Rebekah Muir, Ryan Muir, Nancy Ross, Jeffrey Muir, Jr., Jacob Muir, Jillian Muir, Audrey Muir, and Jenna Muir. Mrs. Muir was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Lee Henderson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. John’s United Methodist Church Mother’s Day Out Preschool Program or The Playground Fund, 104 Newberry St., NW, Aiken, SC 29801.
