Garlin Darnell O'Briant

AIKEN, SC- GARLIN DARNELL "TAR BABY" O'BRIANT, 73, beloved husband of Ruth Elaine Hill O'Briant, died Sunday, November 23, 2014 at his residence. A native of Centre, AL, Garlin was the son of the late Lathan O'Briant and Nora Bradley O'Briant. He served in the United States Army and has been a resident of Aiken for 50 years. Garlin was also a member of Darien Baptist Church and was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Survivors include his wife, Ruth E. O'Briant; a daughter, Melinda O'Briant of Pelion, SC; 4 sons, Pat O'Briant of Pelion, SC, Lamar (Amanda) O'Briant of Aiken, SC, Jacob O'Briant of Aiken, SC, and Carl O'Briant of Aiken, SC; 6 grandchildren, Amber O'Briant, Helen Rummell, Kayla O'Briant, James Rummell, Aliea Dubbs, Waylon Larmar O'Briant; 6 Great Grandchildren; 2 sisters, Glenda Corbett of Gloverville, SC and Linda Holtsizer of Gloverville, SC; a brother, R.L. O'Briant of Burnettown, SC. He was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Ruth Williams and Clara Cato; a brother, James O'Briant and a son, Waylon Delane O'Briant. A visitation will be held Tuesday from 6-8 PM at Shellhouse- Rivers Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 3 PM at Darien Baptist Church with the Reverend Floyd Hutto officiating.
