Onita Coston Robison

AIKEN, SC – ONITA COSTON ROBISON, 78, beloved wife of Fred Allen Robison, Jr., died Sunday, October 26, 2008 at Eden Gardens. Nita was a native of Winston-Salem, NC and was a daughter of the late Fred E. and Lula Prestwood Coston. She graduated from Reynolds High School in Winston-Salem and Appalachian State University. After graduation, she worked with the Methodist Church as a US-2 at Wolff Settlement in Tampa, FL for two years. She married Fred Robison on October 10, 1953 and moved to Aiken three months later. Both Nita and Fred worked for DuPont, until April 1989 when Westinghouse took over operations at the Savannah River Site. Her many interests included travel, crafts, music, and performing in productions at the Aiken Community Playhouse and in the annual benefit shows with the Aiken Diabetic Board. She was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church and the Town & Country Garden Club. Survivors, in addition to her husband include a daughter, Toni (John) Oliphant, Aiken, two brothers, Harold (Betty) Coston, Hendersonville, NC and Rex Coston, Ft. Lauderdale, FL, a sister, Norma Styers, Winston-Salem, NC, two great-grandchildren, Haley Altman, Elko, SC and Greg Richardson, Benson, NC. She was preceded in death by two children, Mitzi Gay Robison and Dana Lee Robison, two grandchildren, John R. (Robby) Altman, and then Ryan A. Altman, who died just one day before Nita, and a sister, Melba Coston. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, at 3:00 PM at St. John’s United Methodist Church, with The Rev. Dr. George K. Howle officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home, 715 East Pine Log Rd., Aiken, SC.
