AIKEN - B. Henderson Johnson, Jr., born September 24, 1928 on Newberry Street, Aiken, SC, entered into rest on November 26, 2014. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday at First Baptist Church, Aiken, with the Reverend Dr. Fred W. Andrea, III officiating. Interment will follow in Southlawn Cemetery. A reception will be held following the services in Newberry Hall. Pallbearers will be James E. Whittle, Jr., Ben New, Tom Clarke, Scott E. Johnson, Stuart H. Johnson & Thomas Sanders. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Aiken County Bar Association, 1969 Allstar Pony League Team, James Price, Leighton McClendon, Ed Moody, Len Yaun, Ed Hudak, Dr. Bill Besson, Dr. Greg Eaves, and Bill Burch. He is the son of Ruby Berry Johnson, deceased 1952 & B. Henderson Johnson, Sr., deceased 1953. He is survived by his wife of sixty one (61) years, Doris Cunningham Johnson (married November 15, 1953) and three children: Vicki Ruby Johnson (Von) Snelgrove, Judge, Brad Larvin Johnson, Physician, and Todd James (Paige) Johnson, Attorney, daughter in law, Susan Johnson; six grandchildren: Scott Johnson, Stuart (Brandi) Johnson, Beverly Snelgrove, Leigh (Trey) Garzzillo, Gray Johnson, Rebekah Weeks; and one great granddaughter, Alexandria Barry Johnson. He was predeceased by his son, Barry Henderson Johnson, Attorney. He graduated Windsor High School 1945 (11th) and, thereafter graduated Aiken High School 1946 (12th). He then enlisted in the USMC in September of 1946 and was honorably discharged September, 1948. He entered Newberry College September, 1948 and Graduated June, 1952. He went to work for the Post Office, Aiken, SC, in September, 1952 and quit the Post Office in 1960. It was at that time that Henderson entered Law School. He graduated January, 1963 with Wig & Robe Honors. He went to work with John H. Williams and Robert E. Johnson at Williams and Johnson Law Firm. In January 1, 1980, B. Henderson Johnson started a Law Firm with his son, Barry Johnson as Johnson & Johnson which is now Johnson, Johnson, Whittle & Lancer, Attorneys, P.A. Mr. Johnson was a pillar to the Aiken Community. He not only exhibited an excellent work ethic but also made time to be involved with his family and the CSRA. The following are just a few glimpses into a life dedicated to others: coached amateur baseball for 25 years, was Past President of Dixie Youth Baseball, Past Member of Board of Directors of Natural Dizzy Dean Baseball, Past President Aiken High Booster Club, coached Pee Wee Football for 13 years, Past Board Member of USCA Partnership, Past Member Board of Directors of Hitchcock Rehabilitation Center, Past Member of Committee to Save the Park (Carolina Bay), a member of the Projects Committee American Cancer Society, Past Member & Chairman of Aiken Advisory Council for School District # 1 (13 years), Past President of Aiken County Bar Association, a member of First Baptist Church, taught Sunday School class at Azalea Woods Nursing Home for 15 years, received Order of the Palmetto from Governor of South Carolina. In addition, he was inducted into the Aiken County Sports Hall of Fame, named, “Citizen of Year” in 1969 (the year he coached a Pony League Team that went to World Series with manager Earl Tate), was named “Man of the Year 1998”, was a member of US Marine Corps League (Judge Advocate) James L. Hammons Detachment #939, Aiken, SC, received an Honorary Doctorate Degree from USC- Aiken in 2008, tried hundreds of cases in the Aiken County Judicial Center, received Distinguished Citizen Award for USC-Aiken in 2005, was a recipient of the DuRant Distinguished Public Service Award in 2006, coached 6 baseball teams to the World Series in Pony League and Dizzy Dean League, was selected as one of the Best Lawyers in America, and was a past member of SC Trial Lawyers Association and American Bar Association.
