Clyde Samuel Heaton

Aiken- Mr. Clyde Samuel Heaton, 84, died Oct. 31 at home. Mr. Heaton was born June 19, 1924, in Anderson, S. C., the son of Carrie Gray and Amos E. Heaton. He graduated from Anderson Boy’s High School in 1941. He attended Erskine College in Due West, S. C. He also completed mechanical engineering courses from the International Correspondence School. He graduated from the Public Utility Executive Program at the University of Michigan and the Edison Electric Management Program. Preceding him in death were his Parents and sisters, Ruby; Mrs. W. S. (Grace) Baker; Mrs. Harry (Thelma) Bowen ; and Mrs. Carlisle (Mary) Harris; brothers, Robert Everette, Ralph and Julian. Surviving are his wife, Hazel (King) Heaton of Aiken, S. C.; one son Michael also of Aiken; a daughter, Judy Wright, and a grandson, Jonathan Wright, both of Aiken,. Sister, Mrs. Jack (Vivian) Harper, Athens, Ga. Brother, John W. Heaton of Aiken, S. C. Mr. Heaton retired in 1989 as vice president—public relations for Central Illinois Public Service Company in Springfield, Illinois, after serving 42 years. In addition to Springfield, he also held various engineering and management positions in Mattoon and Marion. H served as Southern Division Manager in Marion from 1970 to 1985. Mr. Heaton was a U. S. Navy veteran, attaining the rating of Aviation Machinist Mate 2/C. He earned the Air Group 13- Pacific Theatre award. He was a past member of the John A. Logan Community College Industrial Advisory Council and its development foundation. He also Served on the boards of directors for the Marion Cultural and Civic Center; the Greater Marion Chamber of Commerce; the Egyptian Council, Boy Scouts of America and the Southern Illinois Industrial Committee, all in Southern Illinois. In addition, he was a member for the Illinois Press Association; Analysis and Research Committee of the Edison Electric Institute; Illinois Secretary of State Business and Labor Advisory Committee on Literacy; and Midwest Utility Communications Exchange. Mr. Heaton was a member of the St. John’s Methodist Church in Aiken, S. C. Funeral services and interment will be private.
