Donnie Ray Gainey

AIKEN, SC – DONNIE RAY GAINEY, Lt., SCHP, Ret., 66, died Sunday, November 30, 2014 at his residence. A native of Bennettsville, SC, Donnie was a son of the late John and Louise Frazier Gainey. After completing South Carolina Highway Patrol School he was assigned to Aiken County in 1971. He was then promoted to Sergeant and transferred to Edgefield County until he was promoted to Lieutenant and transferred to Greenwood County, where he stayed until his retirement in 1999. After retirement he returned to Aiken. He was awarded Patrolman of the Year twice. Survivors include his wife, Nancy Allen Gainey, Aiken; a daughter, Tonya White, Graniteville, SC; two grandchildren, Donnie White, Alyssa White; a brother, Johnny (Emily) Freeman, Bennettsville, SC; two nephews and several aunts and uncles. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6 until 8 o’clock at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Monday morning at 11 o’clock at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home with The Rev. Dr. Henry L. Chennault officiating. Interment will follow in Southlawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be members of the South Carolina Highway Patrol Honor Guard.
