AIKEN – Mrs. Miriam “Mimi” Yvonne Johnston Hallman, 90, passed away Wednesday, December 10, 2014.
A graveside memorial service will be held at Historic Bethany Cemetery in Aiken for Miriam “Mimi” Yvonne Johnston Hallman, wife of the late Thomas B. Hallman, Jr. Mimi was born in Yakima, WA. May 31, 1924, the daughter of Chester A. & Abi Rhodes Johnston. The service will be at 2:00 pm Saturday December 13, 2014. A reception will follow the service at the Hallman family home.
She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Stanford University with a degree in Physical Therapy in 1945 and immediately enlisted in the Army, where she met her husband at Letterman General Hospital in San Francisco where he was being treated for a war injury he received in Germany. He was her patient.
The Hallman’s together rebuilt Tom’s Aiken Fuel and Feed business that he lost during the 5 years he was in the service. Mrs. Hallman also operated the Aiken Newcomer Service for a number of years. She was a voracious reader and a gifted writer and also enjoyed traveling.
She is survived by her daughter, Marlijo H. Nelson and her husband Rhame of Mt Pleasant, SC., her daughter Georgialee Hallman of Treasure Island, Fl., her partner Katherine Papianou and her son, Thomas Bryan Hallman, III of Aiken, SC. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Thomas Rhame Nelson, his wife Monica and their son and daughter Camden and Bailey of Huger, SC., grandson James Michael Nelson, his wife Sybil and their daughters Cayla and Cayce of Charleston, SC., grandson Jason Adam Hallman of Rio De Janiero, grandson Joshua Brent Hallman and his wife Heather and their daughters Ella and Nolie of Centennial, Co. Also her great granddaughter Hayley Hallman of Fayetteville, NC. and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her loving husband of 54 years, Tom, her parents, her brother and sister- in- law and grandson Thomas Bryan Hallman IV of Colorado Springs, Co.
