Joy Jewell Pruett

NEW ELLENTON, SC – JOY JEWELL PRUETT, 81, widow of Hilton Pruett, died Tuesday evening, December 16, 2014 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers A native of Christian County, KY, Joy was a daughter of the late Clarence and Bernetta Bennett Jewell. She had lived in Aiken since 1953 and was a founding member of South Aiken Baptist. She was a dedicated member of Foreman Memorial Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School. Joy retired from the Aiken County Treasurer’s office. She was a former board member and volunteer with the United Way of Aiken County. Joy was a devoted wife for almost 60 years and poured her life and love into all her children and grandchildren. She had a lifelong passion for learning about God, growing food and planting flowers. All of those things she shared unfailingly with those she loved. Just as her name implied, she was a joy to all who knew her. Survivors include two daughters, Debbie Pearson (Kent) and Janice Henshaw of Aiken, SC; a son Adam Pruett (Susan) of New Ellenton; 9 grandchildren, Leslie Walters (Kyle), Kyle Pearson (Deborah), Lee Henshaw, Audrey Henshaw, Maggie Henshaw, Christian Henshaw, Cagney Pruett, Samantha Pruett, and Raylene Pruett; 4 great- grandchildren, Eric Walters, Collin Walters, Daniel Pearson, Sarah Pearson; 7 siblings, Jackie Tindall, Freida Daniels, Warren Jewell, Lewis Jewell, Ronnie Jewell, Ann Johan, Johnny Jewell. In addition to her parents and beloved husband, Joy was preceded in death by two brothers, Junior Jewell and Kenneth Jewell. Friends may call Friday evening at her home beginning at 5 o’clock until 8. The family will receive friends Saturday morning beginning at 10 o’clock at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home followed by the funeral service at 11 o’clock. The Rev. Richard Nichols will officiate. Interment will follow in Southlawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Kent Pearson, Kyle Pearson, Eric Walters, Lee Henshaw, Christian Henshaw, and Ernie Girolamo.
