Aiken- Mr. Merlyn James Hoyt, 86, died Nov. 8, 2008
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, Nov. 11 at South Aiken Church of God with the Rev. Bruce Fox, Rev. Joe Camp and Rev. William Moss officiating. Interment will follow at Aiken Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Hoyt was born in Monticello, ME to the late Harold and Laura Faulkner Hoyt. He was a member of South Aiken Church of God, Army Veteran of WWII serving in Normandy “The Battle of the Bulge” where he was wounded and taken as a POW. After his discharge he worked as an Evangelist and sang in a quartet group. He moved to Aiken in 1959 and worked as a Nursing Assistant at the Veterans Hospital, Augusta GA for twenty years. After his retirement he enjoyed doing Home Health Care for a blind man.
Survivors include his loving wife, Verna Bean Hoyt and beloved children Pruilla Currie, Carmel, ME, Merlita (Robert) Murphy, Mascotte, FL, Brian (Chris) Currie, Clinton, ME, step daughter, Sylvia Camp Davis, Aiken and step son, Joe (Debbie) Camp, Spartanburg, SC. Other survivors include ten grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brothers Linwood and Lawrence Hoyt.
