AIKEN - Vergie R. (Jerry) Miniard, age 93, of Aiken, SC, passed away peacefully on Jan. 4, 2015, at Pepper Hill Nursing Home. She was the widow of the late Roy A. Miniard, Sr. Born in St. Joseph, TN, she was the daughter of the late John Thomas and Nannie L. (Gilbert) Roberson. She was a member of St. Joseph Church of Christ. She was a graduate of Loretto High School and the McKenzie School of Business, Chattanooga, TN. She worked as a secretary for the US Federal Government, the DuPont Company, and the University of Delaware Bookstore. Upon their retirement to Camden, SC, she was a volunteer with Kershaw County Medical Center, a member of the 14-Karat Exercise Club, and a Friend of the Kershaw County Library. She was the last remaining sibling of 4 sisters and 3 brothers. Jerry is survived by two sons, Roy A. (Chip) Miniard, Jr., of Columbia, SC, and Thomas A. (& Diane) Miniard of Aiken, SC. She is survived by 3 grandsons: T. Alan (& Erin) Miniard, Jr., of Holly Springs, NC, Robert “Davis” Miniard (& fiancé Megan Huey) of Aiken, SC, and Jacob Wesley (Jake) Miniard of Brunswick, GA and by one great-grandson, Thomas “Dunn” Miniard. She leaves several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends that she loved dearly. A memorial service will be held at St. John’s United Methodist Church, 104 Newberry St. NW, Aiken, SC, on Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall. Interment will be at a later date in Montgomery, AL.
