BATESBURG, SC- SAMUEL LAWRENCE SOPER, JR., 67, died on Monday, January 05, 2015 at Palmetto Richland Health Care in Columbia. A native of Richmond, IN, Samuel was a son of the late Samuel L. Sr. and Lola Mae Trusty Soper. He proudly served his country in the United States Army in Vietnam. Samuel served for 42 years as a minister in the Church of Christ. He was currently a member of Twin City Church of Christ in Batesburg and was a member of the board of directors of Palmetto Bible Camp in Travelers Rest, SC. Survivors include his wife, Essie Frazier Soper, children, Mala (Timmy) Lee, Georgetown, SC, Theresa (Tony) Barnes, Pleasant View, TN, Angela (David) Rodgers, Ridge Spring, SC Christopher (Nicole) Soper, Smyrna, TN, Nicole (Lesley) Gantt, Aiken, SC, Douglas (Jessica) Frazier, Alachua, FL, April (Rhett) Manus, Gilbert, SC, Jessica (Duke) McCleskey, Monetta, SC, John (Tracy) Frazier, Ridge Spring, SC; 20 grandchildren, Jeremy and Kara Lee, Brittney, Alexander, Ian and Nicholas Barnes, Shila, Justin and Tyler Johnson, Madison and Braden Soper, Caleb, Alden and Ethan Gantt, James and Joy Frazier, Kaylee Rodgers, Cailyn and Claire McCleskey, Luke and (Baby Hudson due in May) Frazier; siblings; Pete (Vickey) Soper, Batesburg, Joyce Matthews, Forrest City, AR, Walt Soper, North Augusta, David (Patsy) Soper, Aiken, SC, Donald Soper, Spartanburg, Kenny (Kimberly)Soper, Forrest City, AR, and Tommy (Candie) Soper, Spartanburg. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Karen Westmoreland Soper. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5 o’clock until 8 o’clock at Aiken Church of Christ. The funeral service will be held Wednesday afternoon at 3 o’clock at Aiken Church of Christ with Jim Hunter and Ted Gantt officiating. Pallbearers and Honorary Pallbearers will be the grandsons. Interment will follow in Aiken Memorial Gardens.
