Aiken, SC- Mr. Richard Harry Bookstaver, 88, loving husband to Eleanor Gooden Bookstaver, passed away Friday, November 14, 2008. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday at Millbrook Baptist Church with the Reverend Dr. Eddie Leopard officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Wallace Bland, Paul Cloessner, Robert Abshire, Owen Osbon, Harry Harmon, Ray Feaster, Brian Johnson, Stan Harmon. Honorary Pallbearers will be Millbrook Baptist Church Deacons, Christian Anglers, and Dr. Grady McElmurray. Mr. Bookstaver was born in Jersey City, NJ, a son of the late Harry A. and Margaret Biggers Bookstaver. He moved to Aiken in 1953 to work for E. I. Dupont as a Chemist. He was a member of Millbrook Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. He was also a member of the Millbrook Christian Anglers, he sang in the Choir and performed in the Millbrook Hand Bell Choir. In addition to his wife, Eleanor Gooden Bookstaver, he is survived by his daughter, Ruth Lois (Bill) Johnson, West Columbia, SC; two sons, Paul (Debra) Bookstaver, Aiken, SC, David (Susan) Bookstaver, North Augusta, SC; four grandchildren, Michael (Tabitha) Johnson, Brandon Bookstaver, Rebecca Bookstaver, Morgan Bookstaver; great-grand children, Hayden Johnson, Elijah Johnson, Vera Johnson; one brother, Francis Bookstaver, North Haledon, NJ. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Millbrook Baptist Church Building Fund, 176 E. Pine Log Road, Aiken 29803 or the Aiken Heart Association, 1003 Hammond Road, Aiken, SC 29803. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 Monday evening at Shellhouse Funeral Home, 924 Hayne Ave., Aiken.
