AIKEN - Charles (Chuck) Elson Tatman passed from this world to his eternal home with his Lord and Savior on January 10, 2015.
He was born on April 16, 1928 in Crooksville, OH. He was the son of the late Gilbert and Lilly Hill Tatman.
He was a graduate of Crooksville High School and received his BS from The Ohio State University in 1954. He served three years as a lieutenant in the United States Air Force. He spent his career as an accountant with the Atomic Energy Commission and the Department of Energy in both Oakland, CA and at the Savannah River Site in Aiken, SC.
He had been a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church since 1957, when he moved to Aiken, SC. Chuck was a family man who loved his family more than life itself. He was an unselfish man who always put his family and others first. He loved working in his yard and in his younger days was an avid bowler. Throughout the years, Chuck served on many committees within the church he loved. He was also a member of The Cotillion Club of Aiken and served as treasurer for many years. His biggest joy was to see all of his grandchildren, and he looked forward to celebrating 50 years of marriage this August.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters: Gloria, Mary Ellen, Stella and Betty, and two brothers: Eugene and Lawrence.
Those left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 49 years, Hazel Koon Tatman; two daughters, Cheryl Tatman Scarborough (David) of Apex, NC and Tricia Tatman Beiers (Todd) of Lexington, SC; six grandchildren: Joshua & Abby Scarborough and Nicholas, Emily Anne, Charlie, & Jenna Grace Beiers; and one brother, Dwight E. Tatman (Janet) of Columbiana, OH, and many nieces and nephews.
A service celebrating his life will be held at St. John’s United Methodist Church, Aiken, SC on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at 11 AM with the Rev. Dr. Tim McClendon and Rev. Dr. Ray Litts officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in Ward Hall at the church. Burial will follow at 2 PM at Sunset Memory Gardens, Graniteville, SC.
