Robert William Kierspe

AIKEN, SC - Robert William Kierspe, 84, affectionately known as Bob, passed away quietly in his home on Sunday, January 11, 2015. Bob was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana on August 5, 1930, the son of George and Mildred Kierspe. He attended Emmanuel Lutheran School and York High School in Elmhurst, Illinois. He graduated Cum Laude from Ohio State University with a degree in Industrial Engineering in 1953. He was a member of the Engineering Honorary Fraternity Tau Beta Pi and received the highest score in the state of Ohio on the engineering licensing exam. His professional career started with E. I. DuPont at the Savannah River Plant in 1951. He was transferred around the country at various DuPont plants returning to the Savannah River Plant in 1981 and retired from DuPont in 1989. He continued his career with Westinghouse Savannah River Company until 1993 when he retired. His main interest was the American Theater Organ Society and he attended many conventions throughout the U.S. and England. He enjoyed golf, tennis, swimming and biking. Additionally, he loved to tinker with steam engines and trains. In addition to his parents, his wife of 53 years and mother of his children, Marilyn Pitcock Kierspe, preceded him in death. His eldest grandchild, Christopher D'Huyvetters also preceded him in death. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 10 years, Alice Kierspe, a brother, George Kierspe and children Karol D'Huyvetters (Jim), Robert Kierspe (Linda), and Lynn Burkes (Greg). He will be especially remembered by his six grandchildren; Ryan D'Huyvetters, Klaehn Burkes, Kevin Kierspe, Breanna Burkes, Michael Kierspe, and Kylie Burkes. He is also remembered fondly by Alice's children, Tom, Nancy and Bill Wilson (Josefina) and grandchildren. Lauren, Alexis, Joanna, Samantha, and Sara Wilson and Mishka Aminov. A service celebrating his life will be Saturday, January 31, 2015 at 2:00 PM at South Aiken Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Aiken Railroad Depot or to the South Aiken Presbyterian Church Bus Fund.
