Aiken,-James L. Player, Jr., known to everyone as “Jimmy”, died Friday, November 21, 2008, at his residence after an extended illness. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM Tuesday Nov. 25, at St. John’s United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. George K. Howle officiating. The family will receive visitors in Ward Hall one hour prior to the service.
Mr. Player moved to Aiken in 1970 and was employed for most of that time in the automobile business. He was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church and the Seekers of Good News Sunday School Class, the Cotillion Club of Aiken, and the Aiken Debutante Society. He was a past member of the Aiken Jaycees, the Aiken Sertoma Club, Quadrille Club, and the Army Reserve. He was an avid Clemson fan, much to the chagrin of his many Carolina friends and of his wife.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 38 years, Susan (Susie) Blanton Player. Mr. Player, age 64, was born in Sumter, SC, on August 13, 1944, to the late James L. Player, Sr. and the late Eleanor Wilson Player.
Additional survivors include one sister, Mrs. Harry Caraway of Sumter, SC, two brothers, Mr. Henry Hodge of Panama City, Fl, and Mr. Robert Player of Sumter, SC, four nieces, five nephews, and many who referred to him as “Uncle Jimmy.” He was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Peter Pack of Sumter, SC.
