AIKEN – Mr. Walter Julian Pilgrim, 80, widower of the late Mary Alice Pilgrim, died November 24. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Wednesday in the Shellhouse Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Timothy Hammons will officiate. Interment will follow in the Crocketville Presbyterian Church Cemetery at 2:00 PM in Crocketville, SC. Pallbearers will be Nephews, Danny Pilgrim, Ronnie Pilgrim, Heath Pilgrim, Curtis English, Chris English and Lorine English. Mr. Pilgrim was born in Thomson, GA, a son of the late Clarence and Gladys Godwons Pilgrim. He was a Army Veteran. He moved to Aiken in 1960 and was the owner of S & P Grading Company. He was involved in the construction of many roads, highways, subdivisions, shopping centers, utilities, and other various grading, asphalt and concrete paving projects in SC and GA. He was the former owner of Lucky Strike Stables. He enjoyed training and showing Tennessee Walking Horses, and received many trophies and ribbons over the years, with some of them being on the national level. Later in life he started driving carriages in parades. He was a member of the Tennessee Walking Horse Association, and was a farmer and cattleman. Survivors include a sister Lottie Pilgrim Sheffield, Thomson, GA, sister and brother in law, Martha Ann and Oddis Gooding: mother in law, Mary Rivers Altman, Crocketville and a God Son, Jimmy Briggs, Aiken. In addition to his parents and wife, a sister, Vera Valaroosa, and six brothers, William Pilgrim, Gilbert Pilgrim, Lorian Pilgrim, Rudolph Pilgrim, Clarence Pilgrim, Jr. and Cleveland Pilgrim preceded him in death.
