AIKEN, SC JAMES WILLIAM “JIM” CONGDON, 63, beloved husband of Susan Earl Congdon, died suddenly Wednesday, February 4, 2015. A native of Endicott, NY, Jim was a son of Minnie Remelius Congdon and the late Francis I. Congdon. He was a graduate of Alfred University in Alfred, NY with a PhD in Ceramic Science. Jim had lived in Aiken since 1977 and was a retired research scientist with the Savannah River National Laboratory. He loved retirement and spending time golfing, hunting, traveling and enjoying his grandchildren. He was a member of Palmetto Golf Club and Peeples Deer Club. Survivors, in addition to his wife Susan, include a son, Robert William “Bobby” Congdon (Shelly), Seneca, SC; a daughter, Karen Marie Gregory (Matthew), Lexington, SC; three grandchildren, Logan Robert Gregory, Blake William Gregory and Cara Suzanne Congdon; his mother Minnie Congdon, Holly Hill, FL and a sister, Carol Benedict, Flagler Beach, FL. A prayer vigil will be held Sunday afternoon at 4 o’clock at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home followed by visitation until 6 o’clock. The Funeral Mass will be held Monday morning at 10 o’clock at Old St. Mary Help of Christians Church on Park Avenue with The Reverend Gregory Wilson as celebrant.
