AIKEN, SC – CLARENCE HAYWOOD MABRY, JR., beloved husband of Jamie Johnson Mabry, died Friday, February 20, 2015 at University Hospital, Augusta, GA.
A native of Albemarle, NC, Clarence was a son of the late Clarence Haywood Mabry, Sr., and Lois Harward Mabry. He graduated from North Carolina State University with a BS in nuclear engineering and earned his master’s degree in environmental science from the University of South Carolina. Clarence moved to Aiken in 1990 and was a general engineer in the Office of Safety and Quality Assurance for the U.S. Department of Energy at the Savannah River Site. He was an Eagle Scout and was a former Boy Scout Leader and commissioner for Boy Scouts of America. He was a reenactor and was a member of the Hampton Legion. Clarence was a member of Aiken’s First Baptist Church.
Survivors, include his wife Jamie; his daughter, Darcy Marie Mabry, Aiken; his son, Clarence Haywood Mabry, III, Madison, WI; a sister, Deborah M. (Dr. George C.) Monroe, Concord, NC; three brothers, Robert (Terry) Mabry, Albemarle, NC, Paul (Kathy) Mabry, Seneca, SC, Thomas Mabry, Roanoke, VA; a nephew and several nieces; and a brother-in-law, Vaughan C. Farrie. Clarence was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Ellen Farrie Mabry.
The funeral service will be held Monday, February 23, 2015 at 2 o’clock in the afternoon at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home with The Rev. Dr. Fred W. Andrea III officiating. Interment will follow in the First Baptist Church of Montmorenci Cemetery. A reception will follow the service in Newberry Hall.
