Rev. Harold Frank McGee

AIKEN – Reverend Harold James Frank McGee, 91, died December 5, 2008. A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 PM Tuesday in the St. Thaddeus Episcopal Chapel with Reverend Ella Breckenridge officiating. Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the graveside service in the Stevenson-McClelland building. Rev. McGee had lived in Aiken for 13 years. He and his wife Marion retired to Aiken in 1985. He was a resident of the Pepper Hill Nursing Center. Rev. McGee was born in Cleveland, OH, October 1, 1917. He was the son of Frederick and Almira Helms McGee of Cleveland. He is survived by his son Stuart Spencer McGee and his family: Sandra, Matthew, Caitlin and Jeffery of Sicklerville, NJ, and Malcolm Edwin McGee of Washington, DC. Rev. McGee graduated Phi Delta Kappa from Western Reserve University. He pursued graduate work at Boston University, Harvard University, and Union Seminary. He served as minister to the United Church of Norwood, Mass., the East Quogue Methodist Church, and the Church at St. Paul and St. Andrew of New York. As a lieutenant chaplain during WWII, he served aboard the USS Sumter from 1943-1945. On December 27, 1945, he received his honorable discharge from the Navy. Rev. McGee was ordained in the Episcopal Church and was called to Hanover Parish, VA in 1946. He was called to Trinity Episcopal Church, Iowa City, IA, where he served from 1947 until his calling at St. Andrew’s Episcopal in College Park, MD. His last calling was to St. Mary’s of Pocomoke City, MD where he served as rector until 1985. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Episcopal Diocese of SC. Rev.
