AIKEN, SC – TURBY F. “BOOTS” THOMAS, JR., MGYSGT, US MARINE CORPS, RET., 77, beloved husband of Johnnie M. Thomas, died Friday, March 13, 2015 at his residence after a long illness. A native of Aiken, Boots was a son of the late Turby F. Sr., and Mary Moseley Thomas. He proudly served his country for 30 years in the United States Marine Corps. He served in Vietnam and was in the 3rd Marine Division, 2nd Tank Battalion, C Company. He was stationed at Camp Pendleton and Camp Lejeune. Turby returned to Aiken after his retirement and worked for Wyatt Construction. Survivors, in addition to his wife Johnnie, include a son, Turby F. “Zack” Thomas III, Aiken; two daughters, Tina Walker, Govan, SC, Sherry Herrick, Four Oaks, NC; a grandson, John Walker, Jr.; a granddaughter, Amanda Gibson; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Glen Thomas, Graniteville, David Thomas, Aiken; two sisters, Janie Seigler and Ann Roe, both of Aiken. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Carl Thomas. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6 until 8 o’clock at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be held from the graveside in Southlawn Cemetery, Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock with full military honors.
