AIKEN, SC - Mrs. Marian Ming-Ho Ling, beloved widow of Mr. Edward S. Ling, passed away on March 17, 2015 at Aiken Regional Medical Center. Born August 15, 1930, in Hong Kong, Mrs. Ling was the daughter of the late Mr. Jolsen Ho and Mrs. Pui-Sang Ho. Mrs. Ling grew up in Hong Kong where her father was a banker. She attended the University of Shanghai in China from 1947 until the communist takeover in 1949 when she escaped back to Hong Kong. She completed her education at Chu Hoi University in 1951 earning a B.A. in Sociology. Upon graduation, she taught at the Tak Sun Anglo-Chinese Primary School in Hong Kong. She met her future husband, Edward, while attending the University of Shanghai and they were married in the First Baptist Church of Hong Kong in 1956. Their good friend, Dr. Carter Morgan, a missionary from the First Baptist Church of Westminster SC, officiated the ceremony. In 1963, Mrs. Ling and her family moved to the United States where she taught English and Chinese for the United Nations International School in New York until 1969 when the family moved to Columbia, SC. In Columbia, she worked for the SCANA Corporation where she was the employee of the month in January 1987. Mrs. Ling was also an active volunteer at Providence Hospital. Mrs. Ling retired in 1990 and remained in Columbia, SC until 1998 when she and her husband Edward moved to Aiken, SC. Mrs. Ling was an active member of the North Trenholm Baptist Church in Columbia, SC and after moving to Aiken, Millbrook Baptist Church where she was a member of the Rainbow Choir and enjoyed traveling with senior members of the congregation. Surviving are her son Lawrence T. Ling and his wife Kelly of Aiken, SC; three grandchildren; Stephanie K. Ling, B. Barrett Way, and Casey E. Way of Aiken, SC; two sisters; Cora Chen and Jennie Shun of Hong Kong; sister-in-law Elaine L. Ling of Moncks Corner, SC; and a number of cousins, nieces, and nephews. A celebration of life service will be held on August 15, 2015, at 11:00 am at the Millbrook Baptist Church Chapel.
