AIKEN, SC – ISABEL RUTH JIUNNIES, 86, died Sunday, April 5, 2015 at her residence.
A native of Newark, NJ, Isabel grew up in Worcester, MA and was the daughter of the late Isabel Jiunnies Browne. She graduated from Commerce High School and the Worcester City Hospital School of Nursing, Worcester, MA. She was commissioned 1st Lt. In the U. S. Army Nurse Corps during the Korean War in 1954 and served in Korea and Japan before being discharged as 2nd Lt. Isabel worked as a Staff Nurse at Worcester City Hospital from 1957 – 1968 and then at Mass General Hospital in Boston from 1968 until 1984. She made Aiken her home since 1987 and was a member of the Aiken Regional Hospital Auxiliary. She was a communicant of St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church and was a member of theThird Order Franciscans.
Survivors include three nieces, Jill Jiunnies, Sumter, Jody Fordham (Jackie), Aiken, Julie Bush, Winston-Salem, NC; two nephews, Jay K. Jiunnies (Meg), Florence, SC, Jeremy W. Jiunnies (Krista), North Augusta; four great-nieces and one great-nephew. In addition to her mother and step-father, Isabel and Kenneth M. Browne, Isabel was preceded in death by her brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Georgena Jiunnies.
A prayer vigil will be held Wednesday evening at 6:30 PM at the old St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church on Park Avenue.
A Requiem Mass will be celebrated Thursday morning at 11:30 AM at the church. Interment will be private in Historic Bethany Cemetery.
