AIKEN, SC – SSGT. THOMAS BRIAN COOPER, US ARMY Ret., 72, died Thursday, December 18, 2008 at MCG Health, Augusta, GA. A native of Ocala, FL, Sgt. Cooper was a son of the late William Player and Carolyn Gibbs Cooper. He was retired Special Forces Green Beret, US Army. He was a member of the Scottish Rite 32nd Degree, Morristown, TN Masonic Lodge. Survivors include 2 daughters, Katherine Leigh (George) Mangrum, Mena, AR and Becky Nichols, Bristol, VA, three grandchildren, Thomas Zachary Cooper-Taylor, Victoria Leigh Rollins and Dustin Nichols, three sisters, Vivian Ferland, Greensboro, GA, Laverne Aiken, Barnsville, GA and Lucy Lathrop, Aiken, SC and a brother, Lucius Cooper, Richmond, VA. A memorial service will be held Saturday at 4:00 PM in the chapel of Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home, 715 East Pine Log Rd., Aiken, SC 29803. Interment will take place in the Veterans National Cemetery in Fort Smith Arkansas. The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the memorial service.
