AIKEN, SC - Frederick R. Waterhouse, 93, passed away December 27, 2008, at Aiken Regional Medical Center. He was the son of the late Fred H. and Stella Dunn Waterhouse.
During WWII he worked as a supervisor in the Nitro Cotton area of Hercules Powder Co. in Radford, Va. making materials for smokeless powder. He moved from Radford to Baraboo, Wisc., with the same company. After the war he worked for American Cyanamide in Bound Brook, N.J. in the Pharmaceutical Dept. In 1952 he was hired by DuPont ato come to
S.R.P. as a shift supervisor in the reactor department. After his retirement in 1980, he and his wife Pauline spent four months of each summer in his favorite state of Maine.
He is survived by his wife Pauline of almost 60 years, his son Stephen of Aiken, his daughter Susan Gilbert of Needham, MA, five grandchildren, Keith Eller of Columbia, SC, Catherine Arant of Evans, GA, Matthew Waterhouse of Chattanooga, TN, Beth Gilbert of Boston, MA and Molly Gilbert of Chicago.
A viewing will be held at Shellhouse Funeral Home, 924 Hayne Ave., Aiken, SC from 5 to 7 PM Monday.
Interment will be at the Evergreen Cemetery in Kennebunk, ME. A short service will be held at the gravesite.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army or to Habitat for Humanity.
